RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- About 150 positions at Dominion Resources Inc. are being eliminated in a move to reduce costs.
The cuts will be companywide. But Dominion spokesman Chet Wade says a significant number of the affected positions likely are in Virginia because that's where the greatest number of employees is located.
Wade tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/16Bvguh ) that the company is working to place employees whose jobs are being eliminated into vacant positions that need to be filled. He says the company wants to avoid layoffs.
The Richmond-based energy provider employs more than 15,500 workers and serves retail energy customers in 15 states. The company owns about 27,500 megawatts of generation, 11,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 6,300 miles of electric transmission lines.
