SALEM, Va. -- Motorists traveling the Route 58 Hillsville Bypass can soon legally drive 65 miles per hour.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said Tuesday that the speed limit will increase from 55 miles per hour on more than 3 miles of the highway's limited access portion through Hillsville and Carroll County. The department expects to have signs designating the new speed limit in place on May 6.
The department says it determined the higher speed limit was acceptable after it examined the road's alignment, interchange spacing, design speed and crash history.
