ABINGDON, Va. - State and local officials are touting recovery efforts two years after tornadoes devastated Washington County and the town of Glade Spring.
Officials planted trees and hosted other events Friday as they marked the anniversary Sunday of the tornado outbreak that left four people dead in Washington County. Dozens more were injured, and factories and commercial businesses took a direct hit along with neighborhoods and churches.
Without federal disaster aid, the community and the state raised $1.5 million to rebuild.
Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Graff Decker praised the county for the rebuilding that's taken place over the last two years.
