RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking sponsors to help pay for its 511 traffic information system and safety service patrol.
Virginia's 511 system provides free, real-time information about traffic conditions, construction delays and other events affecting travel throughout the state.
Officials say since its inception in 2002, the system has received more than 11 million calls and eight million website visits. The service typically receives more than 100,000 calls each month.
The service patrol program helps stranded motorists and removes road hazards. Officials say patrol vehicles cover more than 580 miles daily and help more than 10,000 motorists monthly.
Sponsorships can include corporate brands on sponsored 511 signs and messages on 511 mobile applications, as well as personalized email and text alerts.
