ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Portions of southwest Virginia are digging out from a rare April snowstorm.

The National Weather Service says Blacksburg received nearly 7 inches of snow from Thursday's storm. Virginia Tech canceled its Thursday evening classes.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/9csRCw) reports the Roanoke area had its first measurable April snow in 20 years.

The snow is expected to melt quickly with highs reaching the 60s by Sunday.
