STAFFORD, Va. (AP) -- Stafford County Animal Control officers are looking for six stray cats that possibly were exposed to one that had rabies.
The sheriff's office said Tuesday that the cats had been in the same area where another cat was captured after it scratched two women on March 24. That cat was euthanized after it showed symptoms of being ill. Testing at a state lab confirmed the cat had rabies.
The sheriff's office says officers will try to trap the other strays. While these strays will be targeted, any other cats captured in the traps will be taken to the animal shelter.
