Review finds problems at Hampton Roads Transit

Wednesday - 3/27/2013, 12:16pm  ET

NORFOLK, Va. -- A new report says Hampton Roads Transit will face unmanageable financial problems within two years unless changes are made.

The report by the American Public Transportation Association identified problems with the agency's finances, organizational structure and record-keeping.

It says the transit agency must raise fares soon.

Hampton Roads Transit president and CEO William Harrell requested the review by the association last month.

Harrell tells The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/11LRmbQ ) that he and his staff have addressed the problems or are in the process of addressing them.

The agency's governing board plans to discuss the report Thursday.
