LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Three people have been sentenced for participating in a gift card scam that caused more than $189,000 in losses.
Thirty-three-year-old Mark Allen Mobley of Concord received a 21-month sentence and 23-year-old Spencer Glenn Payne of Gladys received a six-month sentence. Forty-year-old Sean Patrick Mixon of Lynchburg was placed on probation for five years.
All three were sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Lynchburg.
Federal prosecutors say Mobley was working as a route driver for a shredding company at the time of the scam. He stole discarded but still active gift cards from shred bins at a mail fulfillment company. He either used the cards or gave them to Mixon and Payne.
