Culpeper joins call for Madison entrance to park

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) -- Culpeper is joining a call for the creation of a public entrance to Shenandoah National Park in Madison County.

President Herbert Hoover promised the entrance in 1929. But a Madison County resolution says this promise was never honored.

The Culpeper Star Exponent (http://bit.ly/ZANGEs ) reports that the Culpeper Town Council recently endorsed the resolution, which seeks an entrance via route 649 near Criglersville.

The resolution states that more than 33,000 acres of the park are in Madison County. But the county doesn't have a public entrance.

The Culpeper County and Madison County boards of supervisors, the Madison Town Council and the Thomas Jefferson Partnership for Economic Development also have endorsed the resolution.
