Monday - 3/11/2013, 6:40am  ET

RICHLANDS, Va. (AP) -- Water customers in parts of Tazewell, Buchanan and Russell counties will see an improvement in service when a pump station project is completed.

Tazewell County public service administrator Dahmon "Ikey" Ball tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/ZcQLuu ) that work on the project is expected to begin April 1.

Ball says the upgrade will increase the volume of water supplied to the communities of Doran, Raven, Swords Creek and Short Gap. It also is expected to improve the water system's efficiency.

The project will cost about $1 million. Most of the cost will be paid with grant funds and a low-interest loan through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
