Report sheds new light on complexities of youth gun violence

Monday - 2/18/2013, 8:09am  ET

WASHINGTON - Three major risk factors are associated with mass shootings, according to a new report by the National Science Foundation.

They are exposure to violent media, mental health and access to guns.

Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf, R-10th District, released the report on Thursday, which he says was compiled by an advisory committee to the foundation.

Wolf requested the report after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Wolf says he wants more background checks for gun purchases and better warning labels on violent games.
