DISPUTANTA, Va. (AP) -- Michael Beffel has been named interim president and director of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing.

Beffel replaces David R. Lohr, who had been the nonprofit research institute's leader since February 2011.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/Y9amuD ) reports that the center's board plans to search for a permanent executive director.

The center in Prince George County brings together universities and industry in an effort to help the state and the country regain their manufacturing roots.

Beffel is vice president of casting operations for Chromalloy. The company provides parts, repairs, maintenance and overhauls of gas turbines used in aviation and in land-based applications.
