APPOMATTOX, Va. (AP) -- A man charged with killing eight people at his Appomattox home three years ago is set to appear in court.
A hearing for Christopher Speight (SPATE) is set for Friday afternoon in Appomattox County Circuit Court. Prosecutor Darrel Puckett declined to comment on the nature of the hearing. Speight's attorney, Doug Wham (WAHM), did not return telephone messages.
Speight is charged with three counts of capital murder and attempted capital murder of a state police helicopter pilot. He was arrested in January 2010 after an overnight manhunt near the home he shared with his sister, her husband and their two children. Those family members, two neighbors, their teenage daughter and a teenage boy were killed in the shootings.
