Charlottesville airport passenger volume rises

Monday - 1/28/2013, 1:47pm  ET

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Passenger volume is increasing at the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport.

The airport says there were 464,037 passengers in 2012, compared to 406,373 in 2011.

Passenger volume has been rising since 2009, when there were about 347,000 passengers.

Airport spokesman Jason Burch tells The Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/Wkn7DO) that the increase is due to four factors: competitive pricing, air service options, good connections and proximity to the community.

Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce president Timothy Hulbert says the passenger numbers are a sign of economic improvement and stability in the area.
