DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Area Humane Society opposes a proposed ban on feeding waterfowl in the city's parks and along the Riverwalk Trail.
Executive director Paulette Dean tells The Danville Register & Bee ( http://bit.ly/10BQv7B) that the humane society's board of directors believes the proposed ban isn't in the birds' best interests.
Dean says the humane society does support designating areas where people can feed the birds. She says people enjoy feeding waterfowl.
The proposed ban is in response to complaints that the birds leave too many droppings on the trail. Trail users also have complained that many of the birds have become aggressive.
