CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Investigators say a storage unit containing snakes and heat lamps is the origin of a fire that destroyed 32 units at a self-storage facility in Chesapeake.
Chesapeake Fire Department Capt. Scott Saunders tells media outlets that the unit's tenant was using the heat lamps to keep six snakes in an aquarium warm. The tenant used an extension cord to power the heat lamps.
The fire has been ruled accidental. But Saunders says investigators haven't determined the exact cause.
The fire occurred Saturday.
