RICHMOND, Va. - Several buildings are being demolished to make way for a $20 million expansion of the downtown Richmond YMCA.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports ( that the demolition will start Monday morning and take about two days. It will take about two weeks to remove debris. No street closings are planned.

The YMCA of Greater Richmond acquired the buildings in June 2008. Fundraising continues for the expansion, and the construction schedule hinges on the progress of that effort.

Plans call for a preschool that would enable the downtown YMCA to double the number of children it serves from the current 50. The YMCA also wants to build a family-style aquatic center and a multiuse facility that would house a teen center, a senior center and a community outreach center.
