MIDDLETOWN, Va. (AP) - The owners of a historic inn in Middletown want to sell or lease it so that it can stay in business.
The Wayside Inn has been serving travelers since 1797, when it was known as Wilkinson's Tavern.
Owners Lois and Jacob Charon suspended dining room service before Thanksgiving due to staff shortages. But Lois Charon tells The Winchester Star that the inn remains open.
The 23-room inn is listed for sale for $1.5 million.
Butch Barnes with Sager Real Estate in Strasburg says there have been some inquiries about the property.
The Charons bought the inn at auction in 2009 for $1 million.
Lois Charon says she and husband can't continue working around the clock to keep the inn open.
