16-year-old seriously injured in hit-and-run crash

WASHINGTON – A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash Friday evening near the Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria.

Fairfax County police say it happened around 7 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Telegraph road and Broadmoor Street. The boy was crossing the road in a crosswalk.

The victim was rushed to the local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police are searching for a red minivan with possible front-end damage.

The preliminary police investigation determined the van was traveling south on Telegraph Road when it turned left onto Broadmoor Street and struck a boy crossing the intersection. Witnesses tell police the minivan hit the teen and took off down Broadmoor Street.
