Report: 21 Patrick Co. diplomas improperly awarded

Friday - 11/23/2012, 7:54am  ET

STUART, Va. - A state report says Patrick County Public Schools awarded diplomas to 21 students who didn't complete the required coursework.

The preliminary report by the Virginia Department of Education also says three teachers at Patrick County High School didn't have the proper credentials.

According to the report, the school district lacks policies, procedures, and controls to protect the integrity of grades, issuance of accurate diplomas, and administration of Standards of Learning tests.

Patrick County Schools Superintendent Roger Morris tells media outlets that he is working on a corrective action report to address the problems.

State investigators didn't find any willful misconduct and the report doesn't include any sanctions.
