WARRENTON, Va. - Virginia State Police say they are investigating a fatal shooting by a deputy sheriff in Fauquier County.
Authorities say the incident occurred early Friday after deputies from both Fauquier and Stafford counties responded to a report of a crashed and abandoned vehicle near the county line. The investigation led them to a home where the Stafford deputies were confronted by a 17-year-old boy who attacked them with a knife. The teen was shot, and he died at the scene.
At an afternoon press conference, State Police officials said Fauquier deputies were outside the home at the time of the shooting.
The Free Lance-Star reports ( http://bit.ly/Rzo33Y) that the deputy who was attacked suffered superficial knife wounds but was not seriously injured.
