CHARLOTTLESVILLE, Va. - A Virginia woman convicted of embezzling from billionaire Edgar Bronfman Sr. must pay more than $200,000 in restitution.
Joanne Thompson of Palmya pleaded guilty earlier this year to embezzling the money from Bronfman and his property in Albemarle County, Georgetown Farms, while she was employed there.
The Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/SpzYkm) reports that Thompson was sentenced Tuesday in Charlottesville Circuit Court. Judge Edward Hogshire ordered the restitution and gave Thompson two-year suspended sentences on each of five embezzlement counts.
Thompson told the judge she was ashamed and embarrassed for her actions.
A co-defendant, Michael Nemeyer, was acquitted of embezzlement in 2011. Both were arrested in 2010.
A repayment plan for Thompson hasn't been established yet.
