ROANOKE, Va. - The American Cancer Society is seeking Roanoke-area residents to participate in a cancer prevention study.
The organization says in a news release that about 600 people are expected to participate.
Enrollment for the study begins Tuesday and continues through Saturday.
To participate in the study, residents must be between ages 30 and 65 and must not have been diagnosed with cancer, except for basal or squamous cell skin carcinoma. Participants will give a blood sample and complete a comprehensive survey and follow-up surveys every few years.
American Cancer Society area executive director Abigail Bartley says the organization's researchers can only study new and emerging cancer risks if people are willing to become involved.
