FARMVILLE, Va. - A Longwood University alumna is giving $4 million to help pay for construction of a new student center.
The commitment from Elsie Stossel Upchurch is the largest capital gift in Longwood's history.
The Richmond-Times Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/TkcAtj) says Longwood's Board of Visitors voted last week to name the new facility in honor of Upchurch and her late husband.
The Norman H. and Elsie Stossel Upchurch University Center will cost an estimated $30 million. Construction is expected to begin in late 2014 or early 2015.
Upchurch graduated from Longwood in 1943.
