AXTON, Va. - Investigators have determined that a fatal 2010 munitions explosion in Axton was an accident.
Henry County Fire Marshal Rodney Howell tells The Martinsville Bulletin ( http://bit.ly/SFbD8g) that he doesn't expect any charges to be filed.
Twenty-five-year-old Michael Venable and 26-year-old Marcus Shaw Chism were burning wood when the fire reached an old smokehouse where military munitions were stored. A projectile exploded.
Venable died at an area hospital several days later from injuries suffered in the explosion. Chism was treated at the hospital and released.
