NORFOLK, Va. - The top enlisted sailor aboard the USS Gunston Hall has been removed from the job following an investigation into misconduct.
The Navy says Command Master Chief Kelly Smith was relieved on Sept. 8.
The Navy did not specify what the alleged inappropriate behavior was that led to the investigation.
The amphibious dock landing ship is based in Virginia Beach but is currently in port in Manama, Bahrain. Smith has been reassigned to the staff of Naval Surface Force Atlantic in Norfolk.
A permanent relief for Smith has not been identified.
