Thursday - 9/20/2012, 12:57pm  ET

ABINGDON, Va. - The former president of the Saltville Rescue Squad has been convicted on health care fraud and perjury charges.

A federal jury in Abingdon acquitted the rescue squad of similar charges. Jurors also acquitted former president Eddie Louthian Sr. of money laundering charges.

Media outlets say the jury issued its verdict Thursday morning.

Lothian and the rescue squad were accused of fraudulently billed Medicare and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield $880,000 for transporting patients who didn't qualify for the service.
