NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Department of Homeland Security records show that Transportation Security Administration officers seized eight handguns from Hampton Roads' two commercial airports since January.
The Daily Press of Newport News says the weapons haul included a .22 caliber handgun seized last month at Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport.
The handgun was among six loaded firearms that were discovered by TSA officers at security checkpoints since January at both airports.
At Norfolk International Airport, TSA officers have seized a loaded .40 caliber, a loaded .380 caliber, a .25 caliber, and loaded 9 mm weapons.
TSA officers in Norfolk also discovered a flare gun with seven flares and a projectile smoke grenade in a checked bag,
