WHEELING, W.Va. - A federal judge has delayed the trial of a Virginia woman charged with embezzling $1.2 million in horse racing funds from a West Virginia casino and racetrack.

Anita Ambler of Reva, Va., had been set to stand trial in February. U.S. District Judge Frederick Stamp has rescheduled the case for April 23 in Wheeling.

In an order signed late Tuesday, Stamp said a postponement serves the interest of justice, and failing to grant a delay would deny Ambler reasonable time to prepare a defense.

Ambler is charged with 21 counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud and six counts of using criminal proceeds for a transaction.

The alleged thefts from Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in Chester occurred between 2005 and 2010.
