FREDRICKSBURG, Va. - Authorities in Spotsylvania County say a 43-year-old man shot and killed his 75-year-old mother and wounded his sister before turning the shotgun on himself.
Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office Capt. Mike Harvey said police received a call shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
The Free Lance-Star reports that police said David McVearry Anderson shot Laura Reeves, his 51-year-old sister, in the elbow and abdomen. She's in critical but stable condition.
The sheriff's office says Reeves was shot inside the home, and was able to make it outside when she was shot again before escaping to a neighbor's house.
David Anderson shot his mother, Jean Anderson, outside of the home before turning the gun on himself.
Officials also say that the sister's husband also lived at the home but he was at work when the shooting occurred.(Copyright 2012 The Associated Press & WTOP. All rights reserved.)
