NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A group of volunteers is hoping to make one whopper of a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.
Organizers plan to build a BLT more than 300 feet long Friday at the Norfolk Tides baseball game. It's part of "Salute to Bacon" night at Harbor Park.
The Virginian-Pilot reports proceeds from the sale of the sandwich will go to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
The current record for the largest BLT was set last year in St. Louis, Mo., according to the World Records Academy, but Guinness World Records has no listing online for largest BLT sandwich.
Friday's game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs begins at 7:15 p.m.
Of course, slices of the BLT will be available for purchase at the game.
The team also will hold a bacon-eating contest. Four lucky fans will win a year's supply of bacon courtesy of Gwaltney, according to a news release.
