BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - A former Bedford County supervisor faces up to 120 years in prison after pleading no contest to embezzlement and money laundering charges.
Media outlets report that 66-year-old Earl Anthony Ware entered his pleas Tuesday in Bedford County Circuit Court. Sentencing is set for April 8.
Ware was accused of taking money from a benefit fund set up for a family whose mother died. He also was accused of taking money from the Big Island Volunteer Fire Department.
Under the plea agreement, Ware is to pay $295,000 in restitution.
He was a member of the Board of Supervisors for more than 20 years before he lost a re-election bid in 2004.
