Sunday - 4/8/2012, 4:43pm  ET

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Police say five people, including three children, were bitten by pit bulls that escaped from a house in Virginia Beach.

The Virginian-Pilot ( http://bit.ly/I8DRVp) reports that one of the children required plastic surgery and more than 100 stitches. An adult was bitten while trying to fend off the dogs, which also bit their owner.

Markivia Bailey says her son and daughter were playing football in a park Friday when the dogs attacked. Another child who was playing with them had been bitten by one of the dogs six weeks ago.

Detective Tonya Borman says the dogs were seized by Animal Control, and charges against the owner are pending.
