RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Richmond is facing another lawsuit by current and former police officers who claim they're owed overtime pay.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch says 77 plaintiffs filed the lawsuit Friday in federal court.

The lawsuit says the city erroneously applied a federal law that says overtime kicks in after 86 hours worked in a two-week period. Virginia law requires overtime to start at 80 hours.

Police spokesman Gene Lepley told the newspaper that a response wouldn't be available until Monday at the earliest.

In late July, a federal judge approved the settlement of a similar lawsuit involving about 600 active and retired police officers. The city agreed to pay $7 million in unpaid overtime to settle that case.
