Rabid skunk prompts alert in Pittsylvania Co.

DANVILLE, Va. - Health officials are asking residents in a section of northern Pittsylvania County to watch their pets for symptoms of rabies.

The Danville Register & Bee ( http://bit.ly/VaTiYb) reports that the Pittsylvania/Danville Health District issued the rabies alert after a skunk tested positive for rabies.

Kelly Waller with the health district says the skunk could have come in contact with other animals in the Renan Road area east of Gretna.

Symptoms of rabies include a change in behavior, excitability, irritability, staggering or biting.
