$1M lottery prize in Va. to expire Thursday

Wednesday - 9/26/2012, 4:54pm  ET

RICHMOND, Va. - The clock is ticking on an unclaimed $1 million lottery prize in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Lottery says the prize-winning ticket for the March 31 drawing will be worthless if the owner fails to cash it in by 5 p.m. Thursday.

The ticket was sold at a Food Lion in Virginia Beach. By law, winning tickets in Virginia expire 180 days after the drawing.

The winning numbers for the March 31 drawing were 5-14-36-54-58. The Powerball number for that drawing was 27. The ticket matched the first five numbers.

Unclaimed Virginia Lottery prize money goes to the Literary Fund. The Literary Fund has received more than $222 million in unclaimed prizes since the Lottery began in 1988.
