LONDON (AP) - Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine won the heavyweight gold medal in the Olympic boxing tournament on Saturday night, edging Italy's Clemente Russo 14-11.
Usyk is just the third Olympic boxing gold medalist in Ukraine's history, joining Wladimir Klitschko and Vasyl Lomachenko.
Usyk broke open an even bout heading to the third round, punishing Russo with big shots. The 6-foot-3 Ukrainian bruiser then put on an astonishingly nimble dancing display to celebrate his win in the center of the ring.
The Ukrainian team will lead the Olympic field with five boxing medals. Lomachenko will fight for his second Olympic gold Sunday.
Russo won his second straight Olympic silver medal.
