WASHINGTON - Friday at the Birchmere, blues and soul singer Billy Price is celebrating the release of his 13th studio album, "Strong."

Price gained some notoriety with an early 1970s collaboration with local guitar legend Roy Buchanan. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Price has maintained a strong local connection over the years by performing with fellow blues-men the Nighthawks.

For fans of blue-eyed soul with an emphasis on performance, Friday's show at the Birchmere is a can't-miss.

Local songwriter Karl Straub is set to mark his first new album in 14 years with a Saturday night release show at IOTA Club and Cafe.

Straub garnered high marks from the press and peers alike with his band, the Graverobbers.
