Muriel Bowser has $1M to spend in bid for DC mayor

WASHINGTON (AP) — New campaign finance reports show Democrat Muriel Bowser has $1 million on hand for the final month of her bid for District of Columbia Mayor, nearly double her closest rival.

Bowser’s campaign says she raised about $720,000 since Aug. 10, drawn from local and national businesses, unions and some fellow politicians. The campaign says their fundraising reflects Bowser’s strong support.

Bowser is a D.C. councilmember. She defeated Mayor Vincent Gray in the Democratic primary.

Independent candidate David Catania’s campaign said Friday that he has $562,000 on hand for the final weeks of the mayoral campaign after raising $340,000 in the past two months. Catania’s camp has raised about $1.1 million total.

Catania’s campaign says they’re running against money from the District’s political machine but have cut Bowser’s lead in polls.
