WASHINGTON (AP) -- The District of Columbia's Democratic mayoral nominee says her parents were the victims of a burglar who posed as a cable company employee, entered their home and stole property.
D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser says in a statement that her parents, Joe and Joan Bowser, are "a bit shaken" after the burglary Thursday morning at their home in the North Michigan Park neighborhood.
Police have released surveillance footage of the burglar, who is believed to have struck two northeast Washington homes around the same time.
Bowser used her parents' home to launch her campaign, highlighting family's longtime roots in the city. She defeated Mayor Vincent Gray in the April Democratic primary. Councilmember David Catania and former councilmember Carol Schwartz, both independents, are challenging her in the general election.
