D.C. woman accused of leaving mother in hot car

WASHINGTON — A D.C. woman is accused of leaving her disabled mother in a car Monday night into Tuesday, when temperatures soared past 95 degrees.

And the police say that the woman reported her mother missing Monday night, setting off a search.

ABC7 reports the 63-year-old woman was a stroke survivor who was still in the car and in distress until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

A detective decided to follow Teresa Channelder, 26, who had been interviewed by the police because her stories were inconsistent, ABC7 reports.

He watched as she walked to Jefferson Avenue, in Northwest, to the car where her mother was inside, reportedly suffering from dehydration and extreme sweating, and had been sitting in her own urine and feces for about 16 hours.

Channelder was in court Wednesday and released on personal recognizance.
