WASHINGTON -- There are 14.5 million cancer survivors in a U.S., a number that is expected to grow to 19 million over the next decade. And the most common type of cancer among female survivors is breast cancer, the Associated Press reports.
To celebrate, support and raise awareness for survivors of breast cancer, a group of women in the news industry, including WTOP's Hillary Howard, are banning together for the annual NewsBabes Bash for Breast Cancer.
This year's Bash will take place Wednesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Powerhouse in Georgetown. General admission tickets to the event are $75; tickets for survivors are $50. Expect plenty of pink cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.
The NewsBabes Bash will benefit Survivors Offering Support, and Dr. Jill Biden will be a special guest for the evening.
Founded in 2008 by Washington-area anchorwomen, DC NewsBabes is a breast cancer charity that helps raise awareness and funds for breast cancer causes. For more information and tickets, visit the event's website.
