Another black eye for the D.C. Fire Department

WASHINGTON — For the third time in recent days, a District firefighter has been arrested. In the latest arrest, a firefighter has been charged for allegedly setting fire to his own car in an attempt to defraud his insurance company.

Fire investigators obtained a warrant for 27-year-old Marcus Anthony Jackson of Washington, D.C. The warrant charges him with Arson in the 2nd Degree and Malicious Burning with intent to Commit Fraud.

The charges stem from a fire involving Jackson’s vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Charger, that he is alleged to have set on fire using gasoline on Jan. 23, 2014. Prince George’s County Police confirmed that the incident occurred in the 1200 block of Farmingdale Road in Capitol Heights, Md.

Jackson reported the vehicle stolen in D.C. and filed a claim with his insurance company but he has turned himself in to investigators. He awaits a bond review hearing in front of a District Court Commissioner. Jackson is a Firefighter with the District of Columbia Fire/EMS Department assigned to Engine 4.

In separate but recent incidents, a D.C. fire lieutenant and another firefighter were taken into custody for unrelated crimes in the same week, NBC 4 reports.
