Friday the 13th concerts

WASHINGTON – This weekend’s top concerts include something spooky for Friday the 13th, classic cover songs and holiday fun.

Tonight at the 9:30 Club, Italian movie score masters Goblin are scheduled for an early performance.

The band inadvertently started a new genre of music with their scores for 1970s horror films such as “Deep Red” and “Suspiria.”

Also scheduled for tonight, the Chuck Brown Band presents their “Crankin’ Christmas” concert at the Howard Theatre.

The band has continued to perform since Brown’s death in May 2012.

Local songwriter Laura Tsaggaris is scheduled for a Saturday-night performance at the Rock & Roll Hotel.

Tsaggaris’ latest album, Everyman, features a cameo from alt-country bad boy Ryan Adams.

Also scheduled for Saturday night, the all- female tribute Lez Zeppelin is set to bring their rocking Zeppelin set to the stage of the State Theatre.

Spin Magazine referred to the band as “the most powerful all-female band in rock history.”

R&B and hip-hop pioneer Lauryn Hill is scheduled for a Sunday-night performance at the 9:30 Club.

Even though Hill hasn’t released an album in more than a decade, her current short tour is generating buzz — The New York Times raved about a November performance with her band at the Bowery Ballroom.
