WASHINGTON (AP) -- Candidates for mayor of Washington are making last-minute pitches to potential donors ahead of a key fundraising deadline.
The campaigns have until midnight Tuesday to submit their latest financial reports.
The last deadline was in October. As of then, Councilmember Jack Evans had raised the most money among the Democratic primary candidates, while Councilmember Muriel Bowser had the most money left to spend.
Since then, several new candidates have entered the race, including Mayor Vincent Gray, who filed his paperwork with the Office of Campaign Finance on Monday after confirming a week earlier that he planned to seek re-election. Other candidates include councilmembers Vincent Orange and Tommy Wells, former State Department official Reta Lewis and restaurateur Andy Shallal.
The Democratic primary is April 1.
