New restaurants to D.C.'s dining scene

Three new restaurants in D.C.

WASHINGTON - The holiday season isn't slowing down the rate of new restaurants opening in the D.C. area. Nycci Nellis of recently spoke with WTOP about what's popping up on plates throughout the city.

New York-based Osteria Morini recently opened in the Navy Yard area of Southeast D.C.

"Not a lot of people know that area, just yet, but trust me, this is going to be one of the new hot spots for dining. We talked about Bluejacket opening there a month ago, and now Osteria Morini," Nellis says.

The water-front trattoria is known for its pastas and traditional, casual Italian cuisine. And if you're pinching pennies this time of year, Nellis says Osteria Morini is not too expensive. The restaurant just started serving lunch and has a great happy hour, as well.

Another new addition to the D.C. dining scene is Iron Gate, from Neighborhood Restaurant Group.

"It's such an interesting concept. Half of the restaurant is almost outdoors," Nellis says. "It is one of the most romantic spots in the city."

The indoor part of Iron Gate serves a four-course tasting menu, which costs $50 per person.

"And I have to say the wine list is spectacular," Nellis says.

Now might be the best time to try out the Dupont Circle spot, since Nellis says the patio, which is a la carte dining, will surely be swamped in the warmer weather times.

Also new to the D.C. food scene is Ris Lacoste's Union Market pop-up. The stand is called RIS' Larder, which Nellis explains translates to "pantry."

"It's all these prepared items -- stocks, sauces, mixers," Nellis says. "It's a great place to stock up on items for your holidays, whether you're entertaining or need to bring some gifts."
