Public invited to testify at DC marijuana hearing

Wednesday - 10/23/2013, 3:20am  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Members of the D.C. Council are inviting the public to testify on a bill that would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.

Councilmember Tommy Wells, who chairs the council's public safety committee, and Councilmember Marion Barry are organizing Wednesday's hearing at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library.

The hearing will continue Thursday at the John A. Wilson Building.

Proponents of the legislation say black D.C. residents make up a disproportionate percentage of the number of people arrested for marijuana possession in the city.
