Arrest made in Independence Day murder

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police in Washington say they have arrested a man in the fatal shooting of a Howard University student over the summer.
Twenty-six-year-old Rasdavid Lagarde of Washington was arrested about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. He is charged with first-degree felony murder while armed in the death of 22-year-old Omar Sykes.
Police say Sykes was shot about 11:30 p.m. July 4 near the northwest Washington campus. Sykes and another student were walking when they were approached by two men, one of whom pulled out a gun and shot Sykes.
The other student was beaten but survived.
Officers say in July that the crime was an apparently random robbery attempt.
