WASHINGTON (AP) -- A District of Columbia man who authorities say failed to report nearly a half million dollars in income has pleaded guilty to a federal tax evasion charge.
Prosecutors say Jon C. Cooper entered his plea on Wednesday. He faces up to five years in prison.
Prosecutors say Cooper and another man induced an Indonesian airline company to pay them a $1 million security deposit to lease two aircraft.
He transferred some of the money to the other man, Alan Messner, and spent the balance of the security deposit for personal use.
Messner has already pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
Prosecutors say Cooper failed to report nearly $450,000 on his federal income tax return.
A lawyer for Cooper declined to comment Thursday.
