Sri Srinivasan joins US Court of Appeals in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) - A former Justice Department official has become the first federal appellate judge of South Asian descent.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1dNP7ar ) reports Sri Srinivasan was sworn in Thursday as a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Srinivasan is the first presidential nominee confirmed to the court since 2006.

The 46-year-old Srinivasan is a former principal deputy solicitor general who worked in the office during both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor administered the oath of office. Srinivasan clerked for O'Connor. He holds three degrees from Stanford University.
